News, articles and comment:

What do the tea parties want?

Basically, they want choice. Say, this ...
instead of this ...

Or, it might be a choice about whether or not the U.S. Government should run multi-trillion-dollar deficits. Or does or doesn't spend your money rehabilitating minarets (mosque architectural components) in nations who harbor terrorists who want to kill every Jew in Israel. Or, if you are a Catholic, whether or not your government uses your money to pay for "free" abortions under the auspices of a socialized medicine program.

It's quite simple, actually. Conservatives and Libertarians want freedom. Liberals (progressives) want to own everything and everybody, like a medievil monarch. The word "progressive" means "change," and implies change in a "forward" direction. Change to what, you ask? You'd like to know just what a progressive means by forward? Well a different U.S. Constitution, for a start. For example, they would like to have a nation which practices massive redistribution of income. Taking from those who earn a living, then giving the money to those who don't.

The government would be the "agent" here, taking a comission for transferring the funds.

So, you say, "There's no compassion in giving away other people's money. What do liberals get for doing it?" My response? "Votes." The aquisition of power. (LL/OrMag)

Tea Party Beginnings and Endings

(OMED: The link above will take you to an essay by Art Hyland of Astoria, Oregon. This is part one of two or three connected essays. In places, this first piece is lyrical. It sings a song verging on the poetic. In the vernacular, it fairly rings with personal, human truth.)

Oregon Magazine's Editor, Fred Delkin, is a master of the arts of the grape. One of the founding members of the Oregon Wine Advisory Board, and fomer owner of Jake's Crawfish restaurant in Portland, Fred for years did not respect the man discussed in this piece.
Praise from one's enemy is rare, indeed.

Amid all the political excitement being stirred up by President Obama's 'Cap & Trade'measure he wants to shove through Congress, a new book, Climatism, by Steve Goreham, should be read as a complete discussion of the science, politics and the energy policy implications of the global warming debate. Goreham, an engineer with an MBA from the University of Chicago, asks very pertinent and informed questions.
