Bill to abolish Department of Energy endures its first hearing
SALEM- In an effort to streamline government in the energy sectors, two members
have put forth a bill which would abolish the state’s Department of Energy. The
307-page bill was proposed by Rep. Jules Bailey, D-Portland, and Sen. Chris Edwards,
D-Eugene. Bailey began his testimony by apologizing for the term “abolish” which
was used in the legislation, saying the intention was more of a “restructuring and
elevation” of the department rather than an abolishment.

Good.  Though Progressives are using this as a threat of a
national economic disaster, this is exactly what America
needs.  It will indeed be a disaster, but not the kind you
will hear about in the MSM.  This disaster will expose
the Progressive economic rape of this nation for what
it is -- a vote-purchasing, soul-destroying highway to
the destruction of the greatest nation in history.

You don't "gradually slow down" a vehicle heading for
the cliff's edge.  You hit the brakes hard, then turn the
steering wheel and drive it back to the highway.

Your gasoline is costing more because your government
won't let your oil companies develop your nation's petroleum

new electric car because your highways are built and maintained by
fuel taxes.  If all cars are electic, fuel tax revenues drop to zero.

This is about wine. Oregon Magazine's Editor, Fred Delkin, is a master of the arts of the

owner of Jake's Crawfish restaurant in Portland, Fred for years did not particularly respect
the man discussed in this piece. Praise from one's enemy is rare, indeed.

asks very pertinent and informed questions.

FCC moves to ensure 'net neutrality'... (x-link)
Rush, among other conservative commentators, says that this is a clever move to
control internet content. A kind of backdoor "Fairness Practices" act. But,
Oregon Magazine columnist, Art Hyland, says this is about another kind of
"fairness." Not an attempt at violating the U.S. Constitution by a government takeover
of electronic journalistic content -- as was the case wih the "Fair Practices Act." This one
is something else: namely the use of "fairness" with respect to cost. Think of it as a variety
of "redistributionism." If, after reading the link above, you haven't the faintest idea what is
going on,  welcome to the club. We've taken Art's explanation and reprinted it just below.

OMED: Many early pieces in Oregon Magazine were written in a version of Netscape
Composer that in modern browsers produces black diamonds with reversed question
marks inside them.  These are almost always quotation marks, apostrophes or dashes.
When you see text that contains those black diamonds, it means I haven't gotten around
to repairing the problem, yet.

Lastly, all of our early work URL suffixes were "htm."  When the computer gods decided
to change those to "html," problems arose,  but changing the suffix from one to the other
may make the page you want available
